Every note is a list and a map.
Write an outline, flip it into a mind map, flip it back. Tab branches a thought, Enter continues it, and suggestions follow what the rest of your map is about.

A note called Heat islands shown twice: as an outline with the branches Causes, Effects and Fixes, and as a mind map of the same nodes. The node being typed reads “Pocket par”, with the suggested ending “ks” shown as grey ghost text and a Tab key hint to accept it.
Keyboard first
Tab to branch, Enter for the next idea, Space to edit. Your hands stay on the keys.
Suggestions with context
Each node suggests completions from its parents and siblings, and falls back to your own notes offline.

How it works
Three keys get you from a topic to a map.
- 1
Type a topic, press Enter
Start with one idea. Enter commits it and opens the next line at the same level, so a list comes out as fast as you can type it.
Enter
- 2
Tab to branch, Shift Tab to step back
Tab turns the next line into a child of the one above. Shift Tab moves it back out. Structure happens while you write, not afterwards.
Tab⇧ Tab
- 3
Flip it into a mind map
The same note, laid out as branches with a colour each. Your selection and caret stay where they were. On Windows and Linux, use Ctrl for ⌘.
⌘⇧M
One tree, two shapes
Write it as a list. See it as a map.
Outline and mind map are two views of the same nodes, not an import and an export. Edit in either one and the other is already up to date.
- Outline for fast writing: indent with Tab, reorder by dragging, collapse what you are not working on.
- Mind map for the big picture: each first-level branch gets its own colour, and every child inherits it.
- Expand the map by level with ⌥1 ⌥2 ⌥3, or everything with ⌥0.
Typeahead on every node
It suggests the next branch. You decide.
While you type, the rest of the suggestion appears as grey ghost text. Nothing is written into your note until you press a key.
- Tab accepts the ghost text. Press Tab again and it adds a child, as usual: Tab accepts, Tab again branches.
- ↑ ↓ pick another suggestion, Enter inserts it, Esc hides them until you change the text.
- Suggestions come from the node's parents and siblings, so “Pocket par…” under Fixes finishes differently than it would under Budget.
- Offline, or with AI switched off, it falls back to phrases and words from your own notes, labelled “From your notes”.

FAQ
Questions, answered plainly.
Is noodl free?
Yes. noodl is free to use in your browser. There is no paid plan, no trial and no feature locked behind an upgrade.
Do I need an account?
No. You start in guest mode and everything except AI works without signing in: your notes are saved in this browser and typeahead suggests from your own notes. Sign in with Google to sync across devices and to turn on AI suggestions.
Where are my notes stored?
In your browser's IndexedDB storage, on this device. If you sign in with Google, your notes are also synced to Supabase under your account so your other devices can load them.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the app has loaded, you can create, edit, reorganise and export notes without a connection. Typeahead keeps working too: offline, it suggests matches from your own notes instead of asking the AI.
What does the AI see?
Only when you are signed in and AI is turned on. For a typeahead suggestion: what you have typed in the node, the chain of node texts from the root (the note's title) down to its parent, and the texts of its sibling nodes. For Generate, Summarize, Rewrite and Expand: your prompt, the text you pasted, or the node you chose and its path. It goes through noodl's server to Google Gemini. Your other notes are never sent.
Can I turn the AI off?
Yes. Settings › AI has a single on/off switch. With AI off, nothing is sent to Gemini, and typeahead still suggests phrases and words from your own notes.
What can I export?
PNG and JPEG images of the map, PDF (one A4 page), Markdown, HTML, plain text and lossless JSON. You can import Markdown outlines and noodl JSON files back in, and Settings › Data makes a full backup of every note that you can restore later.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The layout adapts from phone to desktop, controls are sized for touch on small screens, and typeahead works the same way, with suggestions in a dropdown under the node.
Start with one idea.
Type a topic and press Tab to branch it. Everything stays on this device.
